Driver Headed Wrong Way Involved in Head-on Collision in Mississippi

Post #4 image. 2012-07-31.jpgIn a tragic story that highlights the dangers for those simply driving down the road, one reckless Mississippi driver was captured on camera speeding on the opposite side of a highway for several miles before colliding head-on with an oncoming SUV.

The accident took place a few weeks back on Highway 49 in Collins, Mississippi. A driver headed the opposite way filmed the wayward driver as he weaved in and out of oncoming traffic. The driver was identified as Edward Fairley of Mount Olive.

Fairley spent several minutes successfully dodging cars until he finally smashed into the unlucky driver of a Ford SUV. Despite the speed involved and the direct impact of the crash, the driver of the SUV, Amy Cox of Waveland, and a young female passenger walked away with only minor injuries. Fairley too survived the terrible accident remarkably well and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries including a broken shoulder.

What’s perhaps most troubling about the incident is how relatively common it is. The reaction of the Collins police chief, Ronnie Dickinson, said a lot when he told reporters that such an incident is far from rare. “Unfortunately, we see that all the time. It’s not just the state of Mississippi, it’s all over.”

Though the victims of this accident escaped serious injury, this is not always the case. When family members are severely injured or killed by the negligence of others, Mississippi law affords the right to pursue monetary damages in a civil lawsuit. The process can be a long and complicated fight as your claim may be vigorously contested by the other driver’s insurance company. All the while you will likely be dealing with recovering from your injuries, comforting family members and dealing with the mounting bills associated with the accident.

In the event your claim goes to trial, you will want an experienced attorney on your side. If you have been injured and think you may have a personal injury claim, please contact the Mississippi auto accident attorneys at Kobs & Philley at (601) 863-8170.
