Drunk Driving Leads To Deadly Weekend Accident

Post #1 image. 2014-04-02.jpgThis past week a judge in Jackson, MS ordered a woman held in jail on $150,000 bond after she was charged in connection to a deadly weekend car accident that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Officials with the Jackson Police Department say they were called to the accident scene located at the intersection of Highway 18 and TV Road a little after 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Police officers say that 33-year-old Tiffini Martin was found driving a Ford F-150 that had slammed into a Toyota Forerunner carrying four passengers.

According to emergency responders, two of the men in the back seat of the Toyota were ejected form the vehicle. Officers say it appears both men were thrown more than 40 feet from the vehicle. One of the two, 21-year-old Joshua Hardin, tragically died at the scene of the crash due to the severity of his injuries. The other, 22-year-old Max Gubin, was taken by ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Officials there say Gubin remains in critical condition.

Amazingly, the other passengers in the Toyota avoided serious injury and did not require medical attention following the accident. Investigators say they have determined that Hardin, Gubin and two friends had been to a concert at Hal & Mal’s and were on their way home when the accident occurred.

Police say that Martin was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and has since been charged with aggravated drunk driving. Police officers say Martin managed to avoid injury during the accident, something that actually occurs more than many people would expect in drunk driving accidents. Though Martin herself avoided serious harm, those that she came into contact with suffered horribly.

Family members of Hardin say they were stunned by the accident and are having trouble accepting the fact that the promising young man is now gone. In cases like this, family members in Mississippi are able to bring what is known as a wrongful death lawsuit in an attempt to hold the person responsible for their loved one’s death financially accountable. Gubin is also able to sue given the apparent reckless behavior of the other driver that resulted in Gubin’s serious personal injuries.
