A Eupora police officer died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, while attempting to deploy a spike strip in an effort to stop a vehicle believed to have been used in a failed bank robbery.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Criss Turnipseed stated that Officer Crenshaw was putting down spike strips along U.S. Highway 82 in front of the suspects’ car. Turnipseed stated that the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid the spikes and hit Officer Crenshaw, who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Turnipseed says the vehicle then hit a metal utility pole, killing one of the three men in the vehicle. The condition of the two other men are not known at this time.
The incident began about 10 a.m. when the suspects attempted to rob a bank in Eupora, MS. The car was later spotted on Highway 82 and authorities began a pursuit.
